Getting Started
The Work View is your guided workspace for crocheting tapestry patterns. It provides row-by-row instructions, progress tracking, and visual completion markers to help you create beautiful tapestry crochet projects.
Main Interface
Pattern Grid
Visual representation of your pattern with color-coded stitches. Click cells to mark them as completed.
Color Preview
Shows current stitch color, count, and next color information to guide your work.
Progress Counter
Tracks completed stitches and provides navigation through your pattern.
Settings Panel
Configure work direction, starting corner, and display options.
Work Direction
Choose your starting corner and direction mode:
- Alternating: Direction changes each row (most common)
- Consistent: Same direction for all rows
Project Management
Save your work progress and manage your tapestry crochet projects with the built-in project management system.
Project Buttons
💾 Save Progress
Quickly save your current work progress. Only available when working on a saved project. Preserves your position, completed stitches, and settings.
📁 Save Project
Save a new project or update project details. Opens a modal where you can set name, description, and generate thumbnails.
📂 Load Project
Load a previously saved tapestry pattern project. Shows only pattern-type projects with search and filtering options.
🆕 New Project
Start fresh with a new project. Clears current progress and resets the work view.
Saving Projects
- First Save: Use "Save Project" to create a new project with name and optional thumbnail
- Progress Updates: Use "Save Progress" to quickly save your current work state
- Project Type: All projects in work view are automatically set to "Tapestry Pattern"
- Thumbnails: Generate visual previews of your pattern when saving projects
Loading Projects
- Pattern Only: Work view only loads tapestry pattern projects
- Full Restoration: Loading restores your exact position, completed stitches, and all settings
- Search: Find projects quickly using the search box in the load modal
- Progress Preview: See completion percentage and last worked date for each project
What Gets Saved
- Pattern Data: Complete grid, colors, and pattern information
- Work Position: Current row, stitch, and stitch counter
- Completed Cells: All marked stitches and progress
- Work Settings: Starting corner, direction mode, preview mode, and display options
- Project Metadata: Name, description, creation date, and last worked date
Auto-Save Features
- Progress Tracking: Automatically detects when you have unsaved changes
- Status Indicators: Shows save status and last saved time in the project header
- Smart Buttons: Save Progress button is only enabled when you have an active project
Navigation & Progress
Stitch Counter
- + Button: Mark current stitch complete and move forward
- - Button: Move backward and unmark stitch
- Reset: Clear all progress and return to start
Row Navigation
- Next Row (↑): Mark entire row complete and move up
- Prev Row (↓): Clear row completion and move down
Spacebar Modes
- Stitch by Stitch: Toggle individual stitches with spacebar
- Color Blocks: Complete entire color sections at once
Preview Modes
- Current: Show current stitch information
- Next: Preview next stitch color
- Row: Display all colors in current row
Advanced Features
Display Options
Show Symbols
Display pattern symbols on each stitch for reference
Show Completed
Highlight completed stitches with visual markers
Dim Other Rows
Fade non-active rows to focus on current work
Row Borders
Add borders around the current working row
Show Numbers
Display row and column numbers for reference
Show Direction
Arrow indicators showing work direction for each row
Color Palette
- Click Color: Mark all stitches of that color as completed
- Progress Display: Shows completed/total stitches per color
- Smart Grouping: Organizes colors by usage and completion
Pattern Tools
- Mirror Button: Flip pattern horizontally
- Zoom Controls: Adjust pattern size for better visibility
- Fit to Screen: Auto-size pattern to optimal viewing
Keyboard Shortcuts
Navigation
- ← → Move backward/forward in work order (marks completed)
- ↑ Next row (marks entire row completed)
- ↓ Previous row (clears row completion)
Progress Control
- Spacebar Toggle current stitch or complete color block (based on mode)
- + = Mark current stitch complete and advance
- - Move back and unmark stitch
Quick Tips
- Use arrow keys for fast navigation while marking progress
- Switch to Color Block mode for faster completion of solid areas
- Click directly on pattern cells for precise stitch marking
- Use row navigation (↑↓) to quickly complete entire rows
- Enable "Dim Other Rows" to focus on your current working area

- Start Position: Set your starting corner to match your physical work
- Direction Mode: Choose alternating for traditional tapestry crochet
- Color Preview: Use "Next" mode to see upcoming color changes
